1986 Citroen CX Wagon

Although this isn't the first Citroen CX to appear on BB, it is the first one on this continent. From the sparse CL add, I can't tell whether or not this french car has aged like wine or cheese. It appears clean, the miles aren't ridiculous, and the owner claims its been serviced by a reputable Citroen mechanic. On the other hand, the front ride height looks awfully tall (load leveling issue?) and it'll be difficult or expensive to find parts for the cosmetic work needed. Either way, I wish it wasn't on the other side of the country and the seller should have listed a price.

Beat Worthy: 1971 Opel Manta $2000

The appreciating prices of European Capris hasn't rubbed off on GM's equivalent car, the Opel Manta. Opel GTs are nice and cheap too, but I like the Manta's styling better and its as close as I'd like to come to owning an F-body. It has a few issues, but none of them seem too difficult. If there aren't any hidden defects and the car looks good in person this could be a good buy. I also like the very 1970's brown paint.

1971 Honda N600

If you're looking for a cheap classic micro car project this winter, look no more. Its complete, ugly and needs a lot more than TLC but the price isn't bad. If the body and interior are too far gone you can always gut it and transplant a modern Honda motorcycle powertrain. Of course, if you're over 5'6" tall you'll never fit in it.

Tell 'im he's dreamin: Pair of Renault Alliance convertibles

On a good day, one of these could fetch $300 from someone with an odd taste for 1980's French cars. How this seller thinks combining two yard ornaments (but not the wheels from the white one) adds up to $2800 is beyond my comprehension. Both need extensive work to make them road worthy and frankly neither appear worth the effort for a 1.7L automatic transmission equipped French car without interesting French styling. Good thing he doesn't need to sell them because at this price he doesn't have to worry about that.

Beater Batshit: Renault Le Car barn find

I keep wondering if my mechanical skills are really up the the challenge of owning and driving an old French car. Of course I'm not willing to spend much money to find out so the pickings are pretty slim. This Le Car claims to be running and he's even got an entire second Le Car (sans powertrain) he needs to get rid of. Although even if I got the pair for $400 the rust scares me. If the body rusted through I imagine every fastener underneath is rusted solid. Maybe Italian cars rust less...

Beater Batshit: Home Brew Scooter

BeaterBlog generally encourages vehicular experimentation but good taste has limits. I think this scooter's creator was inspired by old time bikes with the really big front wheel. Or maybe meth. Either way I don't think its going to fetch $325 despite an addiction to exclamation marks.

Beat Worthy: 1984 Lincoln Mark VII Diesel

While a put together non running car is always preferable to a bunch of parts in boxes this might be worth an exception. In response to GM's strong diesel offerings in the late 70s, FoMoCo sourced the 2.4 liter diesel M21 from BMW and placed it in fox platform Lincolns. Although I've heard of these cars I've never witnessed one myself. Mark VII styling is the odd transition from stand up grills to aerodynamic curves that only works as 80s nostalgia. Why not convert it to veggie oil and swap out the air suspension for cheap Mustang performance parts. Make it a real Luxury Sport Cheap.
